Disney: The Safest Place on Earth

Hurricane at Disney World

While on our last Disney World vacation, we just happened to be greeted with Hurricane Ian.

While our trip was ultimately extended. We felt SO SAFE during the hurricane. Disney was extremely accommodating & put our nerves at ease as the hurricane was approaching.

We only had 2 more days left in our trip when hurricane Ian was approaching. We had 2 flights get cancelled, so we had no choice but to hunker down and wait it out. Here’s how Disney made us feel taken care of!

Hurricane Nicole is approaching the State of Florida – for those who may get stuck at Disney, you’re in good hands.
Accomodations
  • Lodging: They extended our stay with a discounted hotel rate
  • Check-Ins: They assigned mangers to each building at the resort. They came around to check-in, make sure all concerns were answered, and provided us with flashlights

Food + Meals

No food at Disney is “cheap”, until a storm

  • Bagged Meals: They were cranking out bagged meals that had a sandwich, bag of chips, fruit, cooke, & water for only $7!
  • Resort Food Court: They kept the food court open as much as they could. The morning the storm hit they didn’t open until noon, but still, they were open and cranking out orders! (Thank you to the cast members who showed up to provide for for us!)
  • COMPLIMENTARY FOOD: Yes, Disney actually provided some FREE items. They served coffee and tea several mornings. They continued to make MAGICAL MOMENTS – my kiddos were gifted a Mickey-shaped rice crispy treat & one of those cookies that are as big as my toddler’s face!

Entertainment

  • Arcade: The provided complimentary arcade game. A.k.a. all of the games were free, you just had to wait for each game to reset after playing. My toddler LOVED this!
  • Character Interactions: We got to have some sweet interactions with Doc McStuffins, Mrs. Incredible, & Fancy Nancy. It was so intimate and fun dancing with them!
  • Movies on the Big Screen: Cast members put up a gigantic inflatable big screen to sit and watch movies. They also played movies in the food court area.
  • Lifeguard Games: The life guards who would typically be at the pool led some fun games like: name that song, trivia, & a rendition of musical chairs.
  • STICKERS GALORE: CMs handed out SO many stickers.
SAFETY Is Their number one priority

Being a previous cast member, they could not stress GUEST SAFETY enough while I was in Traditions (a new-hire cast member training class).

We felt safe because the cast members were attentive to the situation. They were kind and answered any questions about evacuation, safe places, etc. Not to mention, the buildings seem to be quite sturdy. Disney knows the type of weather their dealing with, it’s unlikely they would put guests in harm by constructing a cheaply made resort – it’s like a rock!

If we were caught in a hurricane in Florida, I would 100% feel safe staying put (if our flight was cancelled) at the Disney Resorts. They took care of us and went above and beyond. Plus, it would’ve been about $1,200 to rent a car in an attempt to flea before the storm hit. People from Tampa and surrounding areas were actually coming to Disney in search of a safe place. That says something to me!

Disney World is the “Safest Place on Earth” in my eyes!

Stay up to date on the latest hurricane news:

Sending positive thoughts and prayers to the state of Florida & the residents. Fingers crossed there is no severe damage or injuries.
