family at dinner table

An HONEST review of Hollywood Studios Sci-Fi Dine-in Theater with toddlers

Putting the “bestie” in Bibbidi Bobbidi Bestie, and giving you MY honest review of doing Sci-Fi with toddlers.

Straight to the point: NEVER AGAIN. I wish I was being dramatic but that was the most anxiety heightening sit down dinner I’ve ever experienced.

Let me preface that I’ve dined at Sci-Fi pre-kids and I LOVED it. The atmosphere, so calm, a nice dinner and show in dimmed lighting.

Hello, with the descriptors above, I should’ve known NONE of that pairs well with toddlers. Yet, I still booked that dining reservation. So let me save you from making the same oopsie.

If you check out some photos of Sci-Fi you’ll see the cute cars. You see a picture perfect place to eat, your toddler see’s a sparkling new challenge to make this into a destructive playground. We did get a high chair for the youngest but yikes – it was right in the middle of the walkway and not easy at all to manage while sitting in the dining car.

They do have traditional dining tables you can request aside from the car. By requesting a traditional table that takes away half of the uniqueness about this dining experience. Not to mention it doesn’t change the atmosphere…

The atmosphere – calm, quiet and dimmed lighting. Toddlers can get super overstimulated at Disney (more to come on this) and entering this quiet area with my ramped up kiddos gave me all the mama anxiety, praying my littles would take it down a notch. All my normal dining tactics with table top activities, snacks, etc did not deescalate their mood.

The food – yes, there is a kids menu. Our kids meals came out fast while our burgers felt like it took years. We ended up getting mine & my husbands food to go since our kids were already done eating and very ready to go.

I have no intentions on taking my littles back to Sci-Fi until they are at least elementary age & fit the atmosphere a bit more. Sending all the positive vibes if you do endure Sci-Fi with toddlers! I’ll be sharing a few other options in Hollywood Studios that are much more toddler friendly than Sci-Fi.

xoxo
